MEXICAN WAVE AND EMOTIONS

12/2/14

We started off with a game called Mexican wave
Recounting- in this game we all had to lie face down on the ground and pass a wave around.
Reflecting- this exercise was all about focus and determination
Conclusion- i did mess up the wave a couple of times and I also noticed that was a bit slower than the rest of the group so i will have to work on that.
Next we played a game of ‘me you ‘
Recounting- in this game we had to stand in a circle. One person had to start off the offer by saying ‘me you’ and walking toward another person.
Reflecting- this game was about focus and concentration.

Conclusion- I think i went pretty okay in this game. It was fun and it got me into focus. I also think we worked well as a group in this game.
next we were put into groups. i was with Lauren and Margaret. We first started off with physical offers such as making shapes using our bodies with out talking. i think we worked well as a team.
After that we moved on to verbal offers by saying 'lets go...'. one person would make the offer and the other two would say 'yes lets'. This exercise helped us with our commedia skills as it taught us to accept offers and most commedia performances are improvised, therefore it requires a lot of offers and acceptances.

Finally we did emotional offers, in which you had to act out whatever emotion was called out.
Combining all the emotions we went through, we made a short scene without words.

7 emotions :-
 a. joy
 b. grief
 c. fear
 d. anger
 e. surprise
 f. love
 h. laughter

THE ZANNI

Drama 6/2/14
Today we watched  a short clip about the Zanni from the ‘fava’ commedia DVD.
A zanni was so hungry, he would eat anything he found. So he ate things he found on the ground. He even ate his own shoes! However after eating the shoes he choked on it and died.
The emotions he should were:-
1.       Hunger
2.       Desperation
3.       Greed
4.       Excitement
5.       Hysteria

His movements were:-
1.       Light on his feet
2.       Bent over
3.       Leading with his nose
4.       Knees out to the sides at all times
5.       Arms like a chicken ready to grab things
Next we did an exercise to learn the zanni walk and do it ourselves. this helped me to learn more about the zanni and understand his character better.

WHO'S THE BOSS?, VIDEO AND SCENARIOS

5 feb 2014
so today we started off with a game called who,s the boss
recounting - so in this game we needed to have 3 volunteers. the boss and two other employees. the boss has to take turns and ask questions to the employees. when the boss is talking to one person the other person can pull faces at the boss, but the boss can look at him any time and ask him questions so he just has to improvise from whatever pose/face he is pulling off.
reflecting- this game was solely based on improvisation and your ability to think fast
conclusion- i didnt get to play this game. But watching other people helped me learn and gave me ideas on how to improvise on stage which is very helpful especially for my future performances.

next we watched a video on comedia Dell'arte, which made us familiar to the character and their masks, walks, movements etc.
After the movie we did some individual character walks to introduce us to the comedia character walks. she told us to walk as various comedia characters.

After this we  got into our pizza groups and did some scenarios
recounting- we had to make up a scenario where each of us had to be different commedia characters.
reflecting- this allowed us to work on our improvisation skills and also made us familiar with the commedia characters, their walks and their movements .
conclusion- this activity helped me to know what i need to do more of in commedia, which  are the walks and it also helped me to  realize what i am good at which is blending into characters.
